Dating back to the 1650s, the term is thought to reference birds eating grubs. Mentioned in the Swell’s Night Guide 1846. ‘He scoffed weed; that is, chewed tobacco. [Ibid.] 50: You must grub with the grunters, and scoff cabbage without salt

Made from stoneware clay decorated using coloured slips and a paper resist technique. Each plate is unique due to the nature of hand making and the unpredictability of the kiln firing. They are sturdy, functional and dishwasher proof and sometimes display characteristic minor imperfections.
