Scoff Plate

Scoff 
To eat, to gobble up, to eat greedily. A variant possibly of mid 19th century Scaff. Many people wrongly presume it’s linked to the famous 20th century French chef Auguste Escoffier – Inventor of the hierarchical brigade de cuisine system for organizing the kitchen staff. He also came up with the bouillon cube and peach melba .

Made from stoneware clay decorated using coloured slips and a paper resist technique. Each plate is unique due to the nature of hand making and the unpredictability of the kiln firing. They are sturdy, functional and dishwasher proof and sometimes display characteristic minor imperfections.
